MEASURE FOR SHELTER SHUTTERS (Single Fold)
Offset Glass
When the window is “offset” in the door and very narrow, you will require a Single Fold Shutter
The Single Fold Shutter Size is based on the operating section only.

A door that has a steel frame around the glass should be measured so the shutter size is the same as the steel frame size. Measure to the outside edges of the frame (as shown by dotted lines) and that’s the shutter size.
EXAMPLE: Frame size is 8” x 32”.
Shutter size is 8” x 32”
A wood door with no frame or molding bump around the glass would cover the same way. Measure the glass width and length and add for overlap.
(1-½” all four sides if space permits)
EXAMPLE: Glass size is 5” x 29”
Shutter size is 8” x 32”
HOW TO MEASURE FOR SHELTER SHUTTERS (Multi-Fold)
CENTERED GLASS DOOR
Glass cutout is centered horizontally, leaving equal door stiles (solid margins) on both sides.
The Multi Fold Shutter Size is based on the entire flattened out size.
WIDTH: Make a pencil mark on the door about 1” from the hinge side of the door. Make another mark about 1” to 2” past the glass on the handle side of the door. Measure mark to mark for shutter width.
PLEASE NOTE: If the door has a steel frame around the glass you will still make a mark on the door about 1” from the hinge side. Then measure from that mark to the outer edge of the steel window frame for the shutter width.
LENGTH: Make a pencil mark 1” to 2” above and below the glass. Measure mark to mark for shutter length. If the door has a steel frame around the glass, measure the shutter length from the top of the frame to the bottom of the frame.
PLEASE NOTE: When you cover about 1-½” past the glass on the top and bottom, you have the sufficient overlap required to adhere our steel adhesive discs (as needed for wood doors) to the door for use as magnet receptors.

SIDELIGHT MEASURE INSTRUCTIONS
Sidelights get overlooked.
All too often, when planning for lockdown training, sidelights are overlooked or ignored. If there are windows alongside the door, or windows that face the hallway, they should be covered with shutters,.
The old method of using a hand rolled shade or other roll up type is becoming obsolete, and due to ADA regulations, may one day be illegal in public schools.
Shutters work easily on this type of opening and several configuration options are available.
With an opening like the one shown here, we can make one long shutter to cover the upper and lower glass or we can make a fixed panel for the bottom glass, so only the top section opens, as done here.
It is common to see trash or recycle bins stored next to the door. Also book bags and backpacks are left here frequently.
Sometimes, a fixed panel may be the best option for the lower glass section.
Sidelights typically have a 2” wide steel frame surrounding each glass section. We use your “inside the steel frame” measurements to create a shutter size.
We add 3” to the inside width and when there are multiple glass sections in a column as shown, we add 2” to the inside length of each section.
Shutters can be made to cover two or more sections with just one shutter as shown (max size 48”x96”). If view through the bottom window sections is not required, fixed panels can be made instead of working shutters, significantly reducing costs on the job.
